The AIM of the MU is to strengthen and preserve marriage and family life through Christianity.  In order to carry out this aim, our OBJECTIVES are to :

  • Uphold Christ's teaching on the nature of marriage and promote its' wider understanding.
  • Encourage parents to bring up their children in the faith and life of the Church.
  • Maintain a worldwide fellowship of Christians, united in prayer, worship and service.
  • Promote conditions in society favourable to stable family life and the protection of children.
  • Help those whose family life has met with adversity.

Members of the Mothers' Union are proud to belong to the largest women's organisation in the world, which was founded in 1876 by Mary Sumner, whom the Church remembers every 9th August.  From very small beginnings in her vicarage sitting room at Old Alresford in Hampshire, the Mothers' Union now has over one million members in sixty countries. Members  share a common commitment to Christian family life and are united by prayer and action.

For the past four years, Prayer Meetings lasting about half an hour have been held at 2 p.m. usually on a Wednesday, with The Vicar.
We  pray for the sick and all  who need our prayers, in the parish, our country and the world. The date of each prayer meeting is announced in church. Some of the sick and their carers have said they have been comforted to know they are in our thoughts.
